Top DJ’s and Secret Mountain Hotels – What’s not to like?
Horizon Festival 2015 is quite literally… on the horizon! Excuse the pun but it’s the time of year when Bansko in Bulgaria welcomes a host of DJ’s and snow sports enthusiasts to its slopes for a week long party on the pistes.
Horizon is an up and coming festival in its third year that will welcome over 80 DJ’s for seven days and six nights of fun, feasts and incredible music.
Many skiers and boarders prefer the smaller up and coming countries such as Bulgaria, off the track in a manner of speaking, with quieter slopes and a cheaper pint of beer, and the snow has been pretty good this winter too. All boxes ticked!
Bansko and Horizon team together to offer their punters 70km of slopes, top DJ’s and a few secret mountain hotels, medieval banquet halls and forest stages. I can see how the positive reviews focus on its boutique feel now.
To add to the cool and quirky atmosphere you can see the likes of Submotion Orchestra playing some of the most beautiful ambient electronic music. A 9-piece band from my neck of the woods [Leeds], have built up quite a following since their debut EP Finest Hour, and their latest album Alium has been released on the renowned label Ninja Tune.
I’ve been listening to these guys for a couple of years now and here is a favourite of mine:
Another corker on this year’s bill is the BBC’s own funk and soul guru, Mr Craig Charles. I saw him live once at Moseley Jazz Festival and it was great fun! Expect lots of slap bass, funky chords and soulful singing – I’m slightly envious…yes.
This festival will certainly continue to grow so if you’re heading out there this weekend then thumbs up to you. You’ll also be able to say in a few years’ time that you were there during its infancy; because this festival has legs and could be around for a long time!
